The Global Education Denmark provides the opportunity for High School students to study in Germany and the USA and become a host family member and attend a local school for a term, semester or for the academic year. This challenging experience allows foreign students to discover daily life and traditions both in Germany and the US, to develop linguistic fluency and independence and to make friendships that last a lifetime.

Semester or academic year in US Private High Schools (F-1) with host family stay or boarding school, Short term English language Immersion (summer course), housing options are individual host family or group housing.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM IN GERMANY:

Academic Year Program length: approximately 11-12 months
Program start: Fall in August/September; Spring in January/February

Term Program Program length: approximately 3 months (Although German schools do not run on terms, we still offer a 3 months program. The student will not receive a grade report.)

Depending on the geographic placement the school year starts between the beginning of August and mid September and ends between mid-June and the end of July.

Bookings for all program types beyond the application deadlines may be accepted upon request at the sole discretion of our partner in Germany.

Please be aware that we can assist you but you are responsible for the visa application and Global Education Denmark does not guarantee that the required visa will be issued on time and the student may have to arrive after his/her school start date.

The earlier we receive an application the earlier we can take care of securing a host family and school.

Program Qualifications Students participating in the Germany Program should meet the following basic criteria:
 Be at least 15 years old at program start but not older than 18 years upon arrival (student may NOT turn 19 years during program)
 Must NOT have finished school in their home country.
 Have good basic knowledge of the German language (minimum of 100 hours German lessons). If a student has less than 100 hours of German, we strongly recommends that he/she must attend the Pre- program. It is also possible that the student attends an intense German class fulltime for the first few months instead of the high school at natural parents expense.
 Have a strong academic record with an average grade of “B”.
 Demonstrate the necessary maturity to study successfully abroad.
 Be flexible to accept placement throughout Germany.
 Be willing to adapt to the lifestyle of a host family and to participate in family life.
 Must accept that the program rules. If you have a student who does not meet all of the above requirements, please feel free to contact us for a case-by-case decision.

Applications to participate in Academic Programs must be made on the official application form.
The application will not be accepted or processed until the complete application has been received. Please use application forms which are provided by us.

IMPORTANT: We do not guarantee a placement. If we are unable to find a host family for a student, he/she has 2 options: 1. Apply for the upcoming academic year (price stays the same) 2. Withdraw from program for free. Due to capacity of host families, academic year students MUST accept that they may receive 2 separate placements, one for each semester.

Program Services The Germany Program includes the following services:
 Processing of student application
 Host family selection and placement including room and board
 Placements can be throughout Germany, single rooms cannot be guaranteed
 Placement in a German public school (Gymnasium, Gesamtschule, Realschule, Oberschule, Waldorfschule), no special subjects can be guaranteed
 For term and semester students for fall and spring arrivals: fun weekend with activity program in Berlin (or other German city) including transportation to and from host family
 For academic year students: fun weekend with activity program in Berlin including transportation to and from host family in fall and participation in the fun weekend with new semester students in spring including transportation to and from host family (other city than Berlin)
 Arrival orientation in Germany with local representative
 Providing support documentation for the student to obtain a visa for Germany
 Supervision throughout the program by a community representative and by head office staff in Berlin
 Term progress reports (4 for academic year students, 3 for semester students and 2 for term students). No reports for summer program/Pre- program and short term programs.
 Transportation fee for replacement Not included in the program price:
 Insurance Coverage (students must have health, accident and third party liability coverage) we offer an insurance package for EUR 50,00 per month.
 Personal expenses
 Expenses for public transport (e. g. weekly or monthly passes)
 Commuting fee to and from school
 Fees for school materials, books, tec.
 German language courses (if required)
 Lunch during week days
 Fees for attending clubs (sport, music, etc.)
 Expenses for the German residence permit (approx. EUR 100,00)

 Personally interview each applicant and his/her parents to determine the student’s suitability for participation in the Program.
 Submit a completed application form (incl. student confidential interview report) by stated application deadlines.
If any information is inaccurate, altered or omitted we reserves the right to reassess the student’s suitability for the program.
 Determine student’s language ability and supply judgment by his/her German teacher. Students must be able to understand, follow and participate in most subjects in the German High School. Otherwise an intensive language course is required before or upon arrival in Germany or the student is required to attend an intense German class fulltime for the first few months.
 Provide a thorough pre-departure orientation in order to prepare students for a successful year in Germany. The orientation should cover all major points of the  Program: Program rules, host family and school life, cultural and social expectations, insurance procedures.
 Arrange student’s air transportation so that student arrives on the date arranged with us. Inform  about flights details at least 4 weeks prior to arrival.
 Visa application (where necessary) Student´s financial responsibilities
 Student must have an open return flight ticket to his/her home country.
 Students must have adequate Medical and Accident Insurance as well as Third Party Liability Insurance. The insurance package is mandatory either to be provided by the recruiting organization. We offers an insurance package for EUR 50,00 per month.
 Spending money: about EUR 250,00 per month (for public transport expenses, entertainment, long distance phone calls, clothing, toiletry items, school supplies, snacks at school etc.)
 Fees for private language lessons (if required).

 Students accepted into the program and placed with a German host family who cancel before arrival in Germany will be charged with a cancellation fee of EUR 600,00. The cancellation fee for accepted but unplaced students will be EUR 300,00.
 Students who voluntarily withdraw from the program will receive the following refund: EUR 100,00 for each complete remaining month of the program. Academic Year students who withdraw after November 30 (fall) or March 31 (spring) will not receive any refund.
 Students who are dismissed from the program due to violation of any program rules will not receive any refund. Fun Weekends in Berlin (fall) and another German city (spring) The fun weekend in Berlin usually takes place the second weekend in September and for spring arrivals in mid-March in another German city, when all students have arrived at their host communities. Ayusa provides train tickets and sends all necessary information about the hostel, the schedule and activities to the students.

Summer and Winter Program and Pre – Ayusa Program
length: 2 weeks (Summer Program July) and 4 weeks (Summer Program and Pre-Ayusa August)
Program start: August 1st until August 29th 2015 (4 weeks Summer Program and Pre-Ayusa)
July 11th until July 25th 2015 (2 weeks Summer Program)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

* Daytrips to Warnemünde (Baltic Sea, only 4 weeks program) and Potsdam
* 3-day trip to Dresden and Prague (only 4 weeks program)

The summer program and the Pre- program contain the same program details, whereas the Pre program may be booked as language preparation camp before the academic program and therefore students receive a fee discount.

Program Qualifications Because the language school in Berlin offers all levels of German, we do not require students to have previous knowledge of the German language. However, it is helpful if students have had some exposure to German.

Summer Language Participants should:
 Be between 15 and 18 years old.
 Have good English language skills.
 Be interested in German language and culture.
